See which products eat your ad budget without a single sale

Upload your product report from Google Ads. In a few seconds you'll see what share of the budget went to products with no sales — and what to do with each of them.

Get the report in 4 steps

  1. 1 Open Google Ads and the Products tab for the whole account.
  2. 2 Set the date range to the last 12 months — pick custom dates in the calendar.
  3. 3 Check that the report has these columns: product or its ID, spend, clicks, conversions and conversion value. If one is missing, add it in the column settings.
  4. 4 Click Download, choose CSV or Excel and drop the file into the box.

How we calculate

The cost of one sale is the spend on all products divided by their conversions. It already reflects your average order value and your ROAS, so the thresholds fit your store on their own.

The layers come from our study of 1.4M products across 130+ stores. Star and Potential sell, a Loser spent more than the cost of one sale and didn't sell, and it's too early to judge a Zombie: it spent less.

Why “lower the budget” and not “switch off”: the study found no safe switch-off threshold. Even after $500 without a single sale, switching a product off was a mistake in a third of cases.

The minimum honest test of a product is 15–20 clicks. Until it gets them there are no statistics, so such products are flagged.

The calculation and notes are general in nature and aren't a recommendation. You make the decisions about your ads, taking into account everything you know about your store.

Questions

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The file and the numbers in it aren't saved anywhere. Our analytics only gets the fact that a calculation happened — no product names and no numbers from the report.

Why is the spend lower than in my campaigns?

The Products tab only shows spend tied to products from Merchant Center. Search campaigns and part of Performance Max serving on other placements don't get there.

A product sold in my store, but here it has no sales. Why?

Google Ads only counts sales from ads and credits them to the product that was clicked. On top of that, before 15 June 2026 Google didn't report every Performance Max sale by product. So before lowering the budget, check the product in your store.

What should I do with products that don't sell?

Don't switch them all off at once — reallocate: lower their share of the budget and give the money to products that sell. Leave Zombies alone for now: first they need to collect clicks.
